Beyond a Reasonable Doubt
Under our law, a person is presumed innocent of a criminal offense until their guilt is proven against them by the State beyond a reasonable doubt. There is no definition of what beyond a reasonable doubt means, and it often comes down to the personal beliefs of a juror in trial. This is a key area in which you need an experienced lawyer to help identify jurors who are not favorable towards those accused of a crime and keep them from being selected to sit during the trial of your offense. Fortunately, beyond a reasonable doubt is the highest legal burden of proof in law; higher even, than the burden of proof used in cases brought by the state to terminate a person’s parental rights.
